This is the original painting behind my limited edition Poolside Frangipani print, and the only one in existence.
A cluster of creamy frangipani tumbles through glossy emerald leaves, each bloom swirled in thick, buttery strokes with deep magenta and coral at its heart. Cool aqua and blue shimmer through the background, like sunlight bouncing off pool water on a hot afternoon.
It's painted in heavy-body acrylic, laid on thick so every swirl of the petals stands up off the page. The leaf veins are scratched back through the green using sgraffito, my signature technique, to reveal flashes of soft pink underneath. Pencil linework adds the finishing details. Up close, the texture is almost sculptural, and no print can fully capture it.
